Mineral County residents that are in need receive short term prescription medications through Associated Charities. The organization also qualifies clients for a long term medication assistance program. This allows the patient to continue taking their medications and avoid hospital stays.
 
Boy Scouts instills good character traits, leadership skills and self reliance to 300 youth in Mineral County, which helps mold them into good, caring, active community members. 
 
Persons with disabilities receive vocational rehabilitation, sheltered and supportive employment, independent and functional living training, and social activities from the Developmental Center. These services plus transportation to and from job sites, services and other programs allows clients to remain independent and active in the community.
 
Girl Scouts is a pivotal program girls needs to have in their lives to help navigate the maze of adolescence and avoid obstacles in their path that can impair their physical and emotional health, damage their relationships and destroy their motivation and ability to succeed. Girl Scouting provides a place where girls can have fun, learn leadership skills, develop their moral compass, and build self esteem.
 
Piedmont Library serves as a community center for residents of Mineral County and Westernport. Adults and children rely on the Library for help with schoolwork, projects, GED classes, college information, copying, faxing, audio books, notary services, tax services, internet access, and literature.
 
The Salvation Army strives to keep 700 Mineral County residents in their homes by providing assistance paying electric bills, gas bills and rent. Many residents would be facing eviction without this help.
 
Tri Towns after School Program is a tutoring, mentoring and enrichment program that provides 100 children help with homework, a hot meal, internet access, and school supplies.
 
Residents of Mineral County facing financial problems may receive assistance with housing deposits, utility terminations and heating fuel from United Charities of Keyser.
 
Western Potomac Chapter-American Red Cross – provides victims of disasters, such as house fires, immediate emergency assistance such as shelter, medication replacement and clothing. Members of the community are also educated about how to prepare for, prevent and respond to emergencies.
 
The Red Cross also conducts bloodmobiles throughout the county so that area hospitals have ample blood supplies. Educational sessions are also held explaining the importance of blood drives. Bottom line ---lives are saved because of blood donations.
